FAQ

Can a Platoflex wall be used as retaining wall?

No, Platoflex walls should not be used as retaining wall. We recommend that you make a retaining wall from suitable materials and cover it with Platoflex plates or place a Platoflex wall in front of it.

Can a Platoflex wall be used as bearing wall?

No, a Platoflex wall alone cannot be used as load-bearing wall. However, you can make holes in the Platoflex wall so that it can be slid over piles that do have the required bearing capacity.

What is the minimum thickness of a Platoflex wall?

Platoflex walls have a minimum thickness of 10 cm. Walls of 400 cm or more are at least 15 cm thick. Platoflex walls have no maximum thickness restriction.

Can a Platoflex wall be used for seating?

A Platoflex wall can be used as a seating wall, but this should be indicated when ordering so that the construction is adapted for this purpose.

How are Platoflex walls mounted?

There are two methods for mounting Platoflex walls. In 95% of cases, wall mounting method 1 is used (link to instruction video). This method involves securing the Platoflex wall at least 10 cm below ground level with suitable fixings every 30 cm. Walls that are higher than 150 cm should be installed at least 20 cm below ground level, and walls higher than 220 cm at least 30 cm below ground level. Method 2 (link to instruction video) is used when it is not possible to conceal the flange. In this case, holes are made in the Platoflex wall so that it can be slid over piles.

What is the minimum thickness of a Platoflex wall that is slid over piles?

For this type of wall you should leave sufficient space (at least 5 cm) at both sides of the pile. This means that if 5×5 cm piles are used, the Platoflex wall should be at least 15 cm thick. If 7×7 cm piles are used, the wall should be at least 20 cm thick.

How many holes do you need to secure the wall with piles?

This depends of the length and height of the wall. Please contact us for more information.

Can Platoflex walls be customised?

All of our products are made by order and according to the customer’s requirements. Everything we do is custom designed; we don’t have a range of Platoflex products in stock.

In what colours are Platoflex products available?

Platoflex products can be supplied in every RAL colour.

What types of finishes are available?

Platoflex products are available in three finishes: stucco, smooth and concrete look.

How smooth is the smooth finish?

The smooth finish cannot be compared with products made using high-gloss injection mould technology. Contrary to the stucco finish in which sand grains are added to the mixture, the smooth finish does not contain any sand grains. However, the smooth finish is still an imperfect type finish with irregularities. The texture can be compared to orange peel.

Do the three types of finishes have irregularities?

Unlike the stucco and smooth finish which is sprayed, the concrete look finish is applied to the products just as a plasterer would finish a wall using a coarse type stucco. As a result, the concrete look finish is more irregular than the stucco and smooth finish. Because all Platoflex products are completely handmade, small irregularities in the surface of the material are to be expected.

Do Platoflex products require maintenance?

Platoflex products are low in maintenance. When used outdoors, Platoflex products may get dirty (depending on the location). Dirt or streaks can be removed with a high-pressure cleaner. We have also developed the following cleaning and maintenance products especially for Platoflex products. Proclean: cleaning agent that removes stubborn streaks from rain. Wax: for use after cleaning to prevent dirt from sticking on the surface. ProTrust: cleaning agent that removes surface rust. All cleaning and maintenance products are available through your landscape gardener and applied using a so-called doodle (also available through your gardener).

Can consumers order directly from Platoflex?

No, Platoflex products are only available through your gardener or landscape architect.

Are Platoflex products susceptible to rust?

No, Platoflex products do not rust. Surface rust, if any, can be easily removed with ProTrust.
